In recent years, many people have been questioning whether mainstream American public TV is in fact a reality show. Now, as CBS News looks to find a solution to their dilemma, a new TV show has emerged that could offer viewers a refreshing respite from their cable channels. CBS TV has recently launched a campaign called Binge on CBS which has focused on “real” shows, with programs like Dancing With the Stars, True Blood and Orange Is the New Black all on the schedule and in its first season will reach nearly 3 million viewers in the U.S. by the end of March of this year. A CBS spokesperson said, “We are developing an online-only Binge TV campaign where people will be able to experience live stream of all of ABC’s upcoming programs and, hopefully, see just how far away they are from the truth.” According to some news reports, some people are finding that the TV show is actually a “straw hat” reality show (similar to “Parks and Recreation” in the U.S.), but that’s unlikely to be entirely accurate. Instead, the company says that the appeal is that in this very real world, it’s a real show so it’s in fact a real show.
